What We Do
Concerto²¹͘
Concerto21 offers musicians space for artistic reflection and rethinking, for encounters with others and with themselves. The academy provides the necessary resources to create and concretise, to mirror and reflect, to discover new paths and to grow.
Community is a top priority at Concerto21: we value both the exchange of ideas with speakers and like-minded people during the intensive academy weeks and the regular exchange within the network that has been cultivated and built up since the first academy in 2008. A new dimension is also offered by the Concerto21 Foundation, which opens up this community to supporters interested in music.
Concerto21 encourages people to find their own artistic identity, to take risks and to act entrepreneurially. Risks and side effects are therefore expressly encouraged.

Part I: 19 to 23 June 2024
In the first part of Concerto21, the academy members present themselves and their current plans to the lecturers present. They in turn give impulses in the form of short lectures on their work and detailed feedback on the respective presentations. This creates an open space for discussion and exchange. In addition, the expectations of young artists will be discussed in several rounds of talks and the strategic development of artists, funding in Germany and cultural policy will be discussed. The aim of the first week is to give the participant an impression of where he or she currently stands in the development of an independent profile, which individual topics should be worked on and what the general opportunities, expectations and challenges in the music market are.

This practice-oriented intensive week is about strategic artist development and sharpening individual profiles. Concrete work is done on topics such as communication, visualisation, staging and marketing. A number of experienced lecturers will be available to present their work and then work with the Academy participants on examples and specific questions. In addition, there will be evening talks and discussions. The aim of this week is for all academy participants to take away a variety of suggestions and recommendations for action, to get to know tools for their daily work and to be able to plan their artistic future constructively with this "toolbox".

From applicants we expect a CV with the most important concerts, projects and scholarships, an artistic statement on their own work and links to their own website as well as to, for example, concert recordings, Instagram, Spotify or Bandcamp.
In addition, we ask for a maximum three-minute video film* in which applicants introduce themselves personally and answer the following questions:
1. Why am I a musician?
2. What am I doing at the moment?
3. What would I like to do in two and five years?
4. What question(s) am I going into the academy with?*The film does not have to be professionally produced. It can be quite simple and free of technical refinements, shot with a smartphone.
